Boya
Boya is an ongoing project that investigates the profound realm of self-discovery, casting light on the experiences of being a misfit, both in terms of gender identity and neurological perspectives.
I draw from my personal conviction that identity is not a stagnant construct but a dynamic, ever-evolving facet of the self. Through my work, I try to convey the sensations of attempting to explain myself, encountering inevitable stumbling blocks, and eventually embracing the liberation of not needing to explain at all.
Titled after the my childhood nickname, meaning ‘little boy’ in Japanese, Boya fervently celebrates the fluid exploration of genders and identities, embracing them as an ongoing, personal rebellion without the confines of a finite destination. Nestled within the mundanities of urban life, the photographs and collages within this series offer a window into my perception of myself and my place within the backdrop of societal norms and neurotypical conventions.
Boya is not an attempt to provide definitive answers; rather, it serves as an open invitation for viewers to engage with and contemplate their own identities through my neverending journey.
